“Mia came to Sue as a strong-willed 5-year-old Pit Bull who had started to clash with the other dog in the home. Walking her was always a challenge and she pushed back if asked to do anything she didn’t want to. After just 12 days with Sue, and some hands-on training with me, Mia came home calm, well-behaved, and more responsive than ever.”
Practical Training That Creates Lasting Change
I help owners understand their dog’s behaviour and build calmer, more reliable habits at home and out in public. Whether you’re dealing with pulling, barking, reactivity or everyday frustration, my focus is on practical training that produces lasting results.
About Sue Buffington
Hi, I’m Sue Buffington, founder of Leadership Dog Training. My journey as a dog trainer began because of my own dog, a German Shepherd named Bella. Bella was very challenging. She was strong, pulled on the lead, and was reactive to other dogs. I knew if I wanted to keep her, I needed to learn how to communicate with her effectively.
Bella accompanied me when I completed my first professional dog training course with Alpha Canine Professionals in Victoria. This course included hands-on work with Bella, practical experience working with a range of dogs in a board and train environment, and theory-based learning in dog behaviour and training.
Since then, I have expanded my knowledge through further professional development, including training with and learning from internationally respected dog trainer Tyler Muto in the United States. This experience gave me further insight into behaviour modification, problem-solving, and applying training principles to individual dogs.
I have also completed a Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training and continue to develop my skills through ongoing education. I have completed the theory component of STSK9’s Master View Path™ (MVP) program, as well as Pillar One: Movement. I am continuing through the remaining pillars of the program as part of my ongoing professional development. I am also completing further study in assistance dog training.
Today, I help dog owners across Canberra, Yass Valley and surrounding areas create calmer, more reliable behaviour in their dogs.
